Poster Canvassing
The Think Blue Massachusetts campaign has designed a series of three posters that address three specific stormwater pollution sources: dog waste, cigarette waste, and fertilizer. One great way to spread the stormwater pollution message is by initiating a poster campaign using these three poster designs to target different audiences.
Consider using the poster campaign as a school or youth group activity. It’s a great way to get children--chaperoned, of course--active and involved in their community.

First, you’ll need to pull together a poster team. When you assemble your team, ask participants to list what locations make sense to them. These locations will be familiar, and participants will likely have great ideas about what posters to use and where to put them. It will also help to instill a strong feeling of involvement with the Think Blue message.
Organize your team so that members visit different locations to request permission and place the posters. The posters should be distributed around local shops, town halls, libraries, post offices and other public buildings in your community. Try to place them at strategic locations. For example, people are usually required to smoke their cigarettes outside, so placing the cigarette poster on the inside of a building entrance gives smokers a last-minute reminder to dispose of their cigarettes properly. Ask a locally-owned pet store if you can place the dog poop poster in their store, or a veterinarian's office if you can place the same poster in their office. ALWAYS ask permission to put up posters, and when you do, ask for that person’s advice on where to put them--he or she might have an idea that you haven’t considered yet.
The more you can target your audience with a specific message, the more effective the poster!
