Pet Tips

Pet waste bacteria accumulates in our waterways if it is left on the sidewalk or in our yard. The bacteria found in pet waste is harmful to the animals that live in our rivers and oceans and can make our beaches unsafe for swimming, boating, and other recreational activities. If we all pick up after our dogs, our swimming beaches will be that much healthier.

Pick Up After Your Dog

Always pick up after your dog when he makes a “deposit.” This includes picking up waste that is in your yard. The bacteria found in pet waste are a significant pollutant in our local waterways. You can dispose of pet waste in home trash or flush it down the toilet.

Encourage your Neighbors

If everyone in your neighborhood, or dog park, picked up after their dog, there would be much less waste in our waterways.

Flea Treatment

Dispose of flea prevention chemicals properly. Apply and treat them as hazardous chemicals. Alternatively, use soapy water and a comb or safer flea chemicals.

Water Fowl Waste

Don’t feed wild animals. Feeding the animals brings them closer to our water sources and increases the population. As a result, there can be an increase in the amount of wildlife waste which will enter out waterways.
